Maybe you're navigating the uncertainty of fertility treatments, experiencing anxiety during pregnancy, or struggling with emotions you didn't expect after your baby arrived. Perhaps you're feeling overwhelmed by the demands of motherhood, questioning your confidence as a parent, or struggling to process a difficult birth or pregnancy loss. FAQ:
1. How do I know if perinatal mental health therapy is right for me?
If you're experiencing anxiety, emotional overwhelm, low mood, grief, or difficulty adjusting during fertility treatments, pregnancy, or postpartum, therapy may be helpful. You don't need to be experiencing a crisis to seek support. Therapy can also help if you're navigating identity changes, relationship challenges, or simply want a space to process your experience.

2. Is it normal to struggle emotionally during pregnancy or postpartum?
Yes. Pregnancy and the transition to parenthood can bring a wide range of emotions, including anxiety, sadness, uncertainty, and overwhelm. While some emotional changes are common, persistent distress or difficulty functioning deserves attention and support. You don't have to dismiss your feelings as simply part of becoming a parent.

3. Can therapy help if I'm struggling to bond with my baby?
Absolutely. Bonding can look different for everyone, and it doesn't always happen immediately. Therapy offers a supportive space to explore your feelings, understand what may be affecting your emotional connection, and work through any concerns without judgment. You don't have to force yourself to feel a certain way to be a good parent.
4. Can therapy help process miscarriage, pregnancy loss, or difficult birth?
Yes. Therapy can provide a space to process grief, fear, uncertainty, and the emotional impact of pregnancy loss or a distressing birth experience. Together, we can explore what happened, work through difficult emotions, and develop strategies to support your emotional well-being as you move forward.

5. Can I attend therapy while pregnant, undergoing fertility treatments, or postpartum?
Absolutely. Therapy can be helpful at any stage of the reproductive journey, including while trying to conceive, undergoing fertility treatments, during pregnancy, and after birth. Support can be tailored to your circumstances, emotional needs, and goals.

6. What can I expect from my first therapy session?
Your first session is an opportunity to share what has brought you to therapy, explore your experiences, and identify what you hope to gain from support. There is no pressure to have everything figured out or to share more than you're comfortable with. Together, we'll begin developing an understanding of your needs and create a therapeutic approach that feels right for you.
PS. You are welcome to bring baby to your in person or virtual session if needed. Feel free to feed or rock to sleep while we chat. The goal is to reduce the barriers that stand in the way of you getting the support you need.
